1. COE expiry via LTA OneMotoring. Before anything else, check the vehicle's COE expiry date on onemotoring.lta.gov.sg using the plate number.
2. Road tax status. A vehicle with overdue road tax cannot be legally used and cannot be transferred until arrears are cleared.
3. Outstanding hire purchase. If the lorry is still under a finance company's hire purchase agreement, legal title cannot be transferred to you until the loan is fully discharged.
4. Engine cold start. Request to start the engine cold. Listen for irregular knock or white and blue exhaust smoke on startup. Check engine oil on the dipstick: milky or foamy oil means coolant contamination.
